We chose PKD Building to renovate and extend our heritage Williamstown home on the advice of some old and trusted friends. It turned out to be the best advice we could have been given. Renovating and extending a home can be a highly stressful business and you need to be able to have full confidence in your builder and his team. In our case, it was even more important to have faith in our builder – as we were living and working overseas and, at best, could only travel home to visit and check on progress briefly during the entire construction phase. Before committing to PKD for the entire project we also saw a number of PKD’s other completed projects and spoke to numerous very happy previous PKD clients, which also gave us further confidence in our choice of builders.
During the long building process, Peter and Kate not only kept us up to speed with the build via Skype and weekly photo updates – they took extra time to explain each step and to discuss in detail how we could get the best results and best value from the overall process.
Returning to Williamstown to take possession of our new home was a thrilling experience. The quality of workmanship, and the pride that the entire PKD team and their selected subcontractors take in their work, is exceptional. The house has become a ‘dream home,’ far better than we imagined possible. Peter, Kate and the PKD team made the whole process smooth and exciting rather than traumatic and stressful. It’s the way all building projects should be!

At our initial contract signing meeting Pete promised “if I can’t do a perfect job for you then there’s a problem”, and six months later, ahead of time and on budget he delivered. We knew Pete and Kate previously through the Williamstown school and sporting community, so it was important to us that our relationship stayed positive throughout and after the project. Pete quickly formed a great working relationship with us and our architect, who PKD had not worked with previously, and this endured throughout the project, and is still the case now. From the initial promise, the scones and jam at the site meetings, to the final product, and everything in between, we cannot recommend PKD Building highly enough.

We love our ‘old, new home’ as our son calls it. It is transformed and we are just starting to lose the feeling that we are living in someone else’s lovely house!
There are horror stories about undertaking renos and we certainly heard of many through friends and family. However, we were pretty sure at the outset that we had selected the right builders for us, and everything since then has only confirmed that belief.

Geeta & NealePKD have given us an awesome home that exceeds all our dreams and expectations. Peter and Kate were wonderful in guiding us through the renovation process with great patience and understanding. At times we were very definite about what we wanted and yet at others were indecisive to the point of paralysis. In either situation Peter and Kate’s response was always to get us to a happy place. We moved a door because it felt better in a different place, added a beautiful skylight window over the kitchen because we wanted more natural light, changed some windows to give a more traditional feel… and so, our house took shape through a series of iterations with Peter and Kate contributing their ideas, working well with the architect and always checking that we were happy. Nothing was too much trouble. They even got us in to our home ahead of schedule when we got into difficulty with our rental situation and worked so hard to ensure we had a positive moving experience!
What do we love about the house PKD built for us? We love that traditional features to the front, such as high ceilings, Victorian cornice and a cast iron fireplace, retain an original charm that blends smoothly with the two storey extension to the rear. Polished dark wood floor boards flowing throughout the ground floor, a large shaker style kitchen and light filled open plan living give a feeling of space and warmth. Sliding patio doors on two sides and retractable fly screens allow our entertaining space to be extended to the outdoors. Beyond a grassed area we have our pool, perfectly positioned and proportioned, designed and built in conjunction with Transforming Landscapes, PKD’s pool and landscaping partner. We are delighted with the finish in every detail – from tiling and flooring to cabinetry and painting. The workmanship is of high quality and the whole team were fabulous to work with throughout.
In practical terms Peter and Kate have also given us much. We don’t have a garage and so were always concerned about storage space. The attic Pete built for us is an absolute bonus, the cupboards and robes flexible and the little hidey hole crafted under the stairs very handy for a few tools and the like. We have a small cloak room, ideal for shutting away school bags, shoes and coats, but we mostly keep the sliding door open because the ship-lap mounted coat hooks, hat shelf and bench seat look great!
PKD have given us a wonderful home that has a warm and classic feel with exactly the finish we were looking for. If you choose PKD to build your home you won’t be disappointed. We certainly weren’t.
